How To Create A Backlink From Your Own Site

Editorial Team Strategy Leave a Comment

Every once in a while you may find another website that you would like to reference or an individual who you think deserves the reference. This is then called a backlink, people will be able to click this lick and then be transported to that website. Originally there were only 2 types of links and they were no follow and nofollow, now on the 1st of March 2020 there will be 2 more types of links.

Types Of Links

rel=”sponsored”: Use the sponsored attribute to identify links on your site that were created as part of advertisements, sponsorships or other compensation agreements.

rel=”ugc”: UGC stands for User Generated Content, and the ugc attribute value is recommended for links within user generated content, such as comments and forum posts.

rel=”nofollow”: Use this attribute for cases where you want to link to a page but don’t want to imply any type of endorsement, including passing along ranking credit to another page.

The fourth one is a default link of do follow which we are going to create in WordPress.

Creating A Backlink

For the sake of this article we are presuming that you know how to login into the dashboard of your WordPress site. The next stage would be to create a new article for the link that you are about to create. There could be some slight differences here as it depends if you have updated to the Gutenberg editor. The principle is exactly the same but the blocks just look a little different.

Creating A Backlink Within The Original WordPress Editor

First of all you need highlight the text you want the outbound link to go from. In this instance we have chosen the “Gutenberg editor” text and the next stage is to hit the chain link in your editor. At this point it should open up a box to put in the URL (webpage/website) that you want to link to. Once you have pasted in the URL, click on the blue return symbol at the right hand side of the box. This will now save the outbound URL, once you have published you post then you have created a do follow outbound link. The site that you are linking to will now call this link to their site a backlink.

Highlight The Text

Click The Chain Link

The Box Opens, Now Paste The Destination URL

Hit The Blue Return To Lock In The URL

Creating a Backlink In Gutenberg

It’s exactly the same with the blocks but the little chain link is usually closer rather than at the very top of the post. Also the URL box is colourless as well.
